La résistance aux chocs du polycarbonate est 250 fois supérieure à celle du verre à épaisseur comparable, d’où le nom de coupole cuirassée. Une coupole en polycarbonate Skylux est toujours munie d’une couche de coextrusion de protection contre les UV si bien que la coupole conserve sa couleur et sa capacité de transmission lumineuse.
