Colors and textures for superior horizontal sunshade systems.

The color choice of horizontal sunshade systems largely determines the thermal performance of a glass roof or veranda. At Skylux, we offer professionals a curated range of screen fabrics specifically developed for horizontal applications under high UV exposure. From highly reflective light shades to deep, high-contrast colors for an unobstructed outward view: our range combines colorfastness with technical performance (g-value), so you can ensure the right energy efficiency for every project.

High-Quality Screen Fabrics

Horizontal screens are exposed to intense sunlight and mechanical stress. Our range includes fiberglass fabrics (Copaco Serge 600) and polyester fabrics with a high-quality PVC coating (Serge Ferrari Soltis 88/92). These fabrics are dimensionally stable, tear-resistant, and maintain their structural integrity, even under the high tension of our gas spring systems in the Arnex range.

Thermal performance (g-value)

The color of the screen fabric directly affects the total g-value of the complete roof system. Light colors reflect a larger portion of solar radiation and are ideal for maximum heat protection above the glass. Dark colors absorb more energy, but provide superior visual comfort and glare-free views, which is crucial for verandas used as workspaces or living areas.

Seamless integration with paint colors

In addition to fabric colors, we offer complete freedom in the powder-coated finish of the aluminum profiles and boxes. Whether it concerns standard trend colors or specific RAL codes: we ensure a perfect match with the Skylux profile systems (such as Calista or Climalux). This results in a monochrome and calm facade appearance, in line with the most modern architectural standards.

Frequently asked questions about horizontal screens

What is the difference between fiberglass fabric and polyester fabric for horizontal screens?

Fiberglass fabrics (such as the Copaco collection) consist of a fiberglass core with a PVC coating. They are extremely stable and hardly stretch under temperature fluctuations. Polyester fabrics (such as the Soltis series by Serge Ferrari) are produced under prestress (Precontraint technology), resulting in a very thin fabric with high tensile strength, ideal for compact box systems without compromising flatness.

How does the color choice affect the cooling load of the space below?

For horizontal roof sunshade systems, the reflectance (Rs) of the color is the determining factor. A white or pearl grey fabric can reflect up to 70% of solar energy before it reaches the glass. This significantly lowers the internal temperature and reduces the need for active cooling (air conditioning). For professionals, we provide the exact solar reflectance values per fabric type on request for accurate EPB calculations.

How are colorfastness and UV resistance guaranteed?

All our fabrics are solution-dyed or provided with high-quality polymer coatings. This means the pigments are deeply anchored in the fiber. As a result, Skylux screens achieve the highest ratings on the blue wool scale (colorfastness >7). Even with prolonged exposure to intense UV radiation on flat or sloped roofs, the color vibrancy is maintained and no degradation of the base material occurs.

Support for professionals: Samples and configuration tools

Skylux supports architects and installers with physical fabric samples and digital configuration tools. Via our dealer portal, you have direct access to the technical data sheets, including values for light transmission (Tv), reflection (Rs) and absorption (As). This allows you to provide your customers with well-founded advice that goes beyond mere aesthetics, with a focus on comfort and energy savings.
